For generations, Lanesville has been a place where faith, family, and community come together. Located in the scenic hills of southern Indiana, the town is proud of its rich history, strong traditions, and small-town values. While modest in size, Lanesville is perhaps best known for Heritage Weekend, an annual celebration that welcomes tens of thousands of visitors and reflects the community spirit that has defined the town for generations.

For more than two centuries, Lanesville Protestant Cemetery has served as a place of remembrance, reflection, and heritage for the families of Lanesville and the surrounding community. As one of the area's historic cemeteries, it stands as a tribute to the generations of pioneers, veterans, family members, and friends whose lives helped shape our community.

Today, the cemetery continues to provide a peaceful resting place while preserving an important part of Harrison County's history. We invite you to learn more about the cemetery, explore its history, and find information for visitors and families.

History of Lanesville Protestant Cemetery

The Lanesville Protestant Cemetery has served the Lanesville community and surrounding Harrison County area for more than two centuries. Established during the early years of settlement in southern Indiana, the cemetery stands as a lasting reminder of the families, veterans, pioneers, and community members who helped shape the history of our town.

Over the years, the cemetery has become the final resting place for many of the area's founding families. Its gravestones tell the story of Lanesville's growth from a small frontier settlement to the close-knit community it is today. Among those buried here are farmers, merchants, teachers, veterans, parents, children, and neighbors whose lives contributed to the character and heritage of the community.

Today, the Lanesville Protestant Cemetery continues to serve local families while preserving an important part of Harrison County's history. The Board of Trustees remains committed to maintaining the grounds with dignity and respect, honoring those who came before us and ensuring that this historic cemetery will be preserved for future generations.
